Redclick - website design and maintenance based in Coventry, England.

A web design service run by Andrew Wigglesworth.

Services offered.

Creating and maintaining small to medium sized websites (though that could be up to a few hundred pages) for local businesses and organisations.

Setting up of web hosting, web servers and virtual hosting.

I write html and css in a text editor (GNU Emacs) meaning that I write the code directly and do not rely on any supposed shortcuts or software that writes the code (inevitably badly) for me.

This means:

Clean well commented code that is easy to maintain.
Website code ought to be easily readable. Also, if you wish to take over maintenance of the site yourself or use someone else, the code will be less of a mystery.
An accessible website that serves everyone.
It is a requirement in British law that the provision of goods, facilities and services does not discriminate against people with disabilities. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has accessibility guidelines which promote accessibility and a properly coded website will be able abide by these.
Fast loading pages
Lots of websites use unnecessarily complicated code, scripting and other programming. Often this is because people have used software that encourages bad practice or the "web designer" simply wishes to show how clever they are, forgetting the primary purpose of the website.
A web site that works for you, not to show how clever the 'web designer' is.
This is related to the previous point. This takes proper consideration of what you want from a website, including informed questions and suggestions from me.
A portable website.
I don't use proprietary tools to code websites, they can be maintained using a simple text editor. This also means that it is easier for you to ask anyone you like to maintain your website.

Web hosting.

Basic web hosting is offered for websites though for more complex setups with databases etc it's usually in the best interests of clients to deal with a hosting company directly without any middle-man.

This means that you control your hosting and are not artificially tied by a hosting contract. I can give advice on the best hosting for you and it is easy to set up.

Website revision systems.

Commonly known as "Content Management Systems", my experience is that the vast majority of small to medium sized businesses are best served by a well written so-called "static" website.

This means that you do not rely on complicated setups with compoments that can easily go wrong and are often difficult to fix. Static websites are easy to maintain and are much more flexible in terms of search engine optimisation, design and portability.
